Simple Tips for Prepping Your RV Windows
With summer just around the corner, you’ll want to have your RV in tip-top shape for all your road tripping adventures. You’ve checked the tires and brakes, you’ve gotten an oil change, and your motor seems ready to roll, but what about the health of your windshield and side windows? No matter the size of your RV, your vehicle’s windows play an important part in enjoying the sights and sounds of a long-distance road trip. Before hitting the road, it’s a good idea to make sure that your motorhome windshield and glass is in good shape so you won’t have to take time away from your fun to fix window issues down the road. Luckily, our experienced windshield and glass technicians have composed tips and advice to help you get your RV windshield and windows travel-ready.
Check All RV Windows & Screens
To maintain optimal function, check all windows regularly for scratches, chips, cracks, and shatters. Vehicle glass scratches and chips are usually easy to repair, where, depending on the size and severity, cracks and shatters often require a bit more attention or even replacement. Simple scratches can often be buffed out using a glass repair kit that includes a rubbing compound containing cerium oxide, glass cleaner, and a soft cloth. It’s a good idea to keep a glass repair kit handy for small repairs during your travels. Our certified technicians can easily repair chips and cracks to help you maintain a clear line of sight; however, if windshield chips and cracks are large in size, obstructing your line of vision, it’s best to replace your windshield. It’s also a good idea to make sure all side windows and door windows function properly, either sliding sideways, or moving up and down with little-to-no resistance. While you’re checking those windows, double-check your screens for holes and tears. The last thing you want is pesky bugs and mosquitos traveling in your motorhome along with you and your loved ones.
Replace Your Windshield for Optimum Vision
While some windshield cracks and chips are easily repaired, more extensive windshield damage can make it difficult for you to clearly see what’s in front of you. The problem with windshield cracks is that if they aren’t repaired early on, the cracks can spread and spider, which can completely obscure your vision, placing you and others in danger. If you notice a windshield crack, have a certified technician repair it right away. If you let it go and it gets worse, be sure to repair or replace the windshield before heading out on your trip. If it’s completely shattered, replace it immediately.
We hope this information is helpful as you prepare your recreational vehicle for your amazing summertime adventures. The more prepared you are, the safer you and your loved ones will be. Rather than worrying about the overall health of your motorhome, you can travel with confidence knowing your windshield and windows are safe, secure, and free of serious visual obstructions.
